Encourage Motivation and Maximize Learning in Your English Classes

For the next gathering of the Hiroshima ETJ group, presenters from Longman will come and speak about ideas and activities to motivate all levels, from kids to adults. For children's teachers, come and add the latest magical songs and activities to your Bag of Tricks with new and popular children's materials from Longman. And all teachers of adults know that motivation is crucial for successful learning. What techniques should we employ to encourage motivation and maximize learning? Two ways are: to ensure learners talk about what interests them, and to teach language for specific real-world functions. This presentation will explore how to do that using high-interest, relevant content, presented at an appropriate level, and clear, achievable task-based activities.

    About the presenters:
  • Katherine MacKay has over six years of experience teaching and teacher training in Japan. Based in the Osaka office, she is currently an Executive Consultant for children's materials with Longman ELT, Pearson Education Japan.
  • With her will be Paul Rosengrave, a marketing representative for Pearson Education Japan, Longman ELT. In this position he has been involved in the promotion of ELT materials and teacher training for the past two years. Before this Paul worked for many years in the EFL / ESL field both in Japan and in New Zealand, experiencing a variety of teaching situations and student groups.
