Fujimoto-Adamson's presentation discusses the roles and responsibilities in joint teaching of an English native-speaing ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) and a JTL (Japanese Teacher of Language) in one particular English classroom at a Japanese junior high school. Although there seems to be strong support for team-teaching, there is much discussion concerning the many difficulties which have arisen while conducting lessons. This research focusses on the two teachers' roles and responsiblities in the classroom and investigates discursive classroom practice based on recorded classroom data. A qualitative, interpretative approach is used in the analysis. The findings show that the JTL takes overall repsonsibility in the classroom. Also, team-teaching is not alwasy performed effectively because the two different interpretations toward the lesson procedure adoptedly the JTL and the ALT seem to create confusion for the students and teachers themselves. Consequently, she has concluded that if the two teachers wish to effectively share knowledge about language education, the qualifications and training of the ALTs need to be considered.
