Speaker: Scott Gardner, Teresa Stockwell
This presentation reviews several recorded Zoom classes (with students permission) to see how students and teachers occasionally dealt with humor in direct reference to the online medium. Often the humor was accidental, sometimes intentional. We then speculate how these humorous episodes may have worked--or not, in some cases--to empower students in their feelings of language success. These examples may be instructional to teachers dealing not only with communication barriers brought on by distance learning, but with wider interaction issues in language classes generally.
