Shuffling Strategies

Saturday, September 14th, 2002, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Speaker: Joy Jarman-Walsh

Unsuccessful communication classes can often be blamed on two obvious problems; students do not talk with each other in English or coorperate in doing a task. Jarman-Walsh found that the key for her classes was to make groups more effective by observing behavior and re-shuffling groups. In this presentation, she explains how she:

  • observed the students,
  • designated them by behavior types,
  • created new groups based on an idea of a "balanced" group and finally
  • observed them again to see if the groups had improved.
