Using Movies to Motivate Language Development and Critical Thinking Skills

Sunday, September 29th, 2002, 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Speaker: Beverly Gallagher and Shauna Waters

Movies provide an excellent source for motivating class content and an authentic context for language learning. By using content that is interesting and relevant to students' lives, it is easier for them to make connections between the content and their own thoughts and experiences and express an opinion about it. This not only promotes communicative competence through their interaction with a meaningful context, but also enhances critical thinking skills.
