Topic 1: What Texts are Appropriate for Japanese EFL Learners?

The presentation is about a case study that investigates the effects of four text types (original, simplified, elaborated, and lexically simplified-elaborated) on the comprehension of Japanese students. The findings suggest amalgamating text modification techniques to facilitate comprehension. Implications for reading pedagogy will be discussed.

Raquel Taniguchi earned an MA in TESOL degree from the Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research interests are teaching young and adult learners and bilingualism.

Topic 2:

In the last half of the workshop, participants will share their activities, picture books and/or craft ideas for the end of year events. Please bring your favorites for any ages and levels.

This workshop will be live-streamed. Those who are interested in the topics but can't attend can join online. Please pre-register by sending email to Yuco Kikuchi stating whether you would like to attend or participate online. Online participants will be asked to conduct a short connecting test prior to the workshop. Pre-registration for online participation will be closed on Thursday, November 16th.
