Teaching and Learning Vocabulary

This seminar looks at the research findings on vocabulary teaching and learning with a pedagogical focus. The aim of the seminar is to examine principles, procedures, and techniques that are supported by research and to develop familiarity with these through problem solving, materials production, performance, and discussion. The topics covered will include: the statistical nature of vocabulary and vocabulary learning goals; what it means to know a word; communicating meaning; vocabulary and the four skills; vocabulary coping strategies; and monitoring and assessing vocabulary growth. This is part of TUJ's Distinguished Lecturer Series. Note that each seminar is actually 2 days long, apx. 7 hours per day. The first three hours of each seminar are free and open to the public.
