Innovations in Teaching for the Top Global University

Saturday, November 21st, 2015, 9:30 AM - 4:15 PM

Speaker: Bern Mulvey, Iwate Prefectural University; Junichi Wada, Nagano Jogakuin University; Eunjin Bang, Iowa State U of Science and Technology; John Blake, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

The theme of this symposium is Innovations in Teaching for the Top Global University; it is sponsored by ACM Chapter on E-learning and Technical Communication and The University of Aizu. This year's symposium has been designed and organized to continue a conversation at the University of Aizu on innovations in teaching that advance the Top Global University (TGU) project. The University of Aizu is one of only two prefectural universities in Japan that were awarded the TGU designation. The TGU project was initiated by the Japanese government, in September 2014. The project is intended to transform Japan's public and private universities through a process of globalization so that graduates will be able to assume positions of international leadership. During our symposium, we will consider teaching innovations, policy decisions, and alternative directions of university globalization.

  • Professor Bern Mulvey from Iwate Prefectural University will consider the assumptions of globalization policy.
  • Professor Junichi Wada from Nagano Jogakuin University will discuss what Japanese students can learn through humanitarian aid work in developing nations.
  • Professor Eunjin Bang from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in the USA will explain science teaching innovations.
  • Professor John Blake from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology will speak about new approaches to empowering technical writers.

We are particularly interested in a variety of viewpoints as a foundation for an engaging discussion. Please see the event website for full details, including information about lunch and dinner.
