Integrating Tasks into the Foreign Language Classroom

Of all the approaches to teaching foreign languages, task-based language teaching (TBLT) has received the most support from the second-language research community for almost a decade. The reason for this is that TBLT meets the minimum criteria for an effective approach: many learners find it motivating, communicative input and opportunities for learners to produce communicative output are provided, and a focus on grammar and vocabulary is effectively contextualized. This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to experience TBLT first hand by participating in a task-based lesson. Discussions will focus on evaluating individual activities and considering how they can best be implemented in Japan.
