Two one-hour presentations today:
(1) Creative Variations for Textbook Conversations
Bill Pellowe (Kinki University)
Most English textbooks contain model dialogs and conversations for students to practice. In this workshop, the presenter will demonstrate a wide variety of techniques and approaches for using these textbook dialogs in the prelistening, listening, practice and postpractice stages. This aims to be a practical and useful workshop on adapting and extending these traditional activities.
(2) Raising Student and Teacher Awareness to Blended Learning with a Digital Flashcard Tool Called Quizlet
Bruce Lander (Kurume University)
In this presentation, quantitative and qualitative data collected through a 50-itemed survey conducted before and after the introduction of Quizlet to the 400 subjects in this study will be introduced. Empirical data, clearly shows an improved awareness of how technology can influence the foreign language learner. Student feedback on the use of Quizlet and the use of smartphones in class will also be mentioned.
