Using Multi-Media in a Classroom Setting

Saturday, June 15th, 2002, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Speaker: Malcolm Swanson, Nigel Stott and Paul Collett

Malcolm Swanson will start by showing what teachers could be doing with digital video in their classes with a minimal outlay of funds and equipment. In his 30 minute slot, he'll demonstrate how easy it is to produce professional looking results on video, followed by a discussion on using these technologies in your classrooms.
Nigel Stott will be demonstrating some multimedia software made using Macromedia's Director. As well as showing some of the CALL materials he has developed, he will also explain how such materials can be used with large university classes in a way that allows the teacher to focus on interaction with individuals and small groups.
Paul Collett will discuss creating accessible and usable web sites for students, focussing on wireless content-based sites students can access through portable devices, particularly cell phones. He will look at some of the problems involved here, and demonstrate some simple but useful web pages adaptable to a variety of situations.
All three presenters teach at colleges and universities in the Kitakyushu areas and are active members of the local JALT chapter.
