Teaching Debate as a Physical Activity; afterwards: Beer Garden Summer Social 18:00 - 22:30

Saturday, July 20th, 2013, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Speaker: David Kluge (Nanzan University)

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Charles Adamson's presentation originally scheduled for today has been postponed, and we hope to reschedule it again sometime in the new year. In his stead, David Kluge of Nanzan University in Nagoya will present on July 20th.

Teaching Debate as a Physical Activity
Debate is often seen as an elite activity for the few top students. However, it is also seen as an excellent chance for students to practice critical thinking skills, something that everyone can benefit from. The presenter will explain his fun, easy way for everyone to learn debate using physical actions.

David Kluge (Nanzan University, Nagoya) has been teaching English for over 30 years and has been involved in debate and composition for even longer than that. He is the co-author of Basic Steps to Academic Writing and Basic Steps to Writing Research Papers (both of them from Cengage Learning), and is the coordinator of the Speech, Drama, and Debate SIG.
