Critical Media Literacy

Sunday, January 13th, 2013, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Speaker: Anna Isozaki

We live in an age of information overload. How can our students sort through it all, with English not their native language? Especially when the plethora of sources means the likelihood of running into seriously biased materials is all the higher? That's where empowerment and critical thinking come in. New media resources will be introduced as well as "traditional" online news sources and tools. Both will be highlighted in a demonstration of what is available to teachers now to empower students to actively track down news of interest to them and to get the most reliable grip possible on events, their background, and forces likely to drive them as they unfold.
