Roles, Strategies and Skills for Activating Student Discussions

The conversational skills necessary for participating in a content-based classroom discussion are elusive yet crucial. Defining rolesand providing the language support necessary to exchange ideas are two elements that the presentor has found helpful for a successful classroom discussion. The presentor will share her experience in developing these skills in the junior college setting and will offer participants the opportunity to discuss how these ideas can be applied to their contexts.
