Saturday, January 15th, 2011, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Speaker: Robert Chartrand

CALL has been used in one form or another for over fifty years; however, it has only become readily available to language learners and teachers since recent advancements in computer technology and the Internet. The presenter will talk about his experiences using different courseware packages, including commercial software packages as well as freely available innovative programs on the Internet. He will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using these learning tools and make specific recommendations for use in different classroom situations. Finally, he will briefly outline how to use corpus linguistics for language learning and teaching and introduce his research analyzing modal auxiliaries with the British National Corpus.
