ETJ Fukuoka Regional Meeting: Behavior Management and Engaging Students

Saturday, November 6th, 2010, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Speaker: Matthew Jenkins, Bill Pellowe, Paul Shimizu

Two presentations on behavior management and engaging your students!

1) Behavior Management: "Punching Kazuki-kun, sleeping in class, playing with phones, teacher hair loss...arrgh!"
Matthew Jenkins will discuss current theories available to teachers to deal with inappropriate behavior. He will elaborate on his own techniques he uses at university, a junior high school and an elementary school. He will then lead into a discussion of how others in the group deal with behavior in their own contexts.

2) Fully Engaged -- increased participation, involvement and motivation
Bill Pellowe and Paul Shimizu will lead an interactive workshop running through a range of activities for students of all ages, in all class sizes. They'll demonstrate how some very simple "answer flashcards" can transform one's classes. This simple idea is easy to bring into any classroom, and it motivates all of the students to listen, pay attention, process meaning, and respond to the teacher. The teacher, too, will be able to understand quickly how well the students understand the material.

Details at the ETJ Fukuoka website, etj-fukuoka.org. Enjoy drinks and dinner in Nishijin after the presentations! It will be a great chance to focus on teaching, exchange ideas, and network with other teachers in the Fukuoka community!
