Nagasaki JALT is very excited and honoured to have Canadian novelist, poet and critic Joy Kogawa visit us here in Nagasaki in June, and in particular, to have her as a guest at an informal dinner hosted by Nagasaki JALT on June 11, 7-9 PM. Ms Kogawa is probably most famous for "Obasan" (1981), a semi-autobiographical novel, as well as its sequel "Itsuka" (1992, revised as "Emily Kato" in 2005), and other works, including "Naomi's Road" (1986) and "Naomi's Tree" (2008) and her considerable poetry and criticism. She was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1986 by the Canadian government, the highest honour bestowed. She is a guest keynote speaker at the Canadian Literary Society of Japan's annual conference at Nagasaki University, and we are fortunate to have her for a total of three different events here in Nagasaki on June 11-12.
About our dinner: the location is Ume no hana restaurant in central Nagasaki, a locale known for its multi-course tofu-based menu. The cost will be Y3000 per person, payable in advance; each person pays extra for drinks, payable at the party.
