The Games Teachers Play

Sunday, June 21st, 2009, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Speaker: Karen Varnes

Nagano ETJ is back with its final installment of 'Games Teachers Play' for teachers of young learners. The workshop has been well received by educators throughout the Prefecture. Now it's your chance to participate. June's workshop will be held in Nagano City and chaired by Montessori educator Karen Varnes.

The Montessori approach is an alternative educational approach based on theories of child development by Italian educator Maria Montessori (1870-–1952). Ms. Varnes has made presentations for such organizations as the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT), and she appears regularly at English conversation schools and playgroups throughout Nagano Prefecture This workshop will be an opportunity for all of us to share games that are fun and interesting.

Ms. Varnes will share games and activities from her repertoire, but the idea behind "Games Teachers Play" is for all participants to share the activities we use in our classrooms. "Games Teachers Play" should provide for an excellent follow-up to the June 14th "English Activities in Elementary Schools" mini-conference (sponsored by the Matsumoto Group for International Understanding and the Shinshu chapter of the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT)). For those who cannot attend the event in Matsumoto, this professional development opportunity in Nagano City promises to be equally beneficial!
