POSTPONED: Teaching upper elementary and junior high school students

Sunday, May 24th, 2009, 10:10 AM - 1:00 PM

Speaker: Jungim Kwak

Note: This event has been Cancelled due to flu concerns. This event will be rescheduled in the future.

Jungim will discuss how to maintain students interest while they learn practical skills for junior high and high school. Jungim Kwak started a Juku (called IVY) in Kobe 25 years ago, which specialized in Math and Japanese for grade 6 to 12. Then 10 years ago, after gradually getting younger students like grade 3 to 5, opened an English conversation as well as a kanji class. Now IVY holds over 80 students, ages ranging from 2 to 18 years old with 1 full timer, 8 part timers and Jungim. As running a school, she constantly strives to meet students, parents and her wonderful staff's demands. Following Jungim's 45 minute dicsussion, we will have a Q and A session. This will lead into our group discussion time which should take up to 45 minutes. Then, after a short break, we will come back for our ever popular GAME JAM, and end with our networking time and lunch.

If you are unfamiliar with our GAME JAM, it is a show-and-tell involving anyone with a great activity idea. It is a great way to hear lots of tried and true activities that you can take into your classes the next Monday. So bring some great ideas and materials if you've got them!

Registration for the meeting will begin at 10:10 am. Please preregister for this presentation, as space is limited: kyotoetj@yahoo.co.jp The meeting will be held at the usual venue.
