Planning a curriculum

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Speaker: Beth Kaplan Wolff and Catherine Marich

Oral Communication classes are often assigned to teachers without strict curriculum requirements or guidelines, leaving teachers to decide on their own teaching approaches, course content and materials. In this workshop we'll present our own experiences with curriculum writing at the junior high school level, and work together to brainstorm ideas for teachers and ALTs to use when approaching tasks such as curriculum mapping and course coordination. This workshop will take a look at grade-specific projects and tasks, and ask participants to share their experiences and ideas for successful course coordination.

The second half of this workshop will involve participants collaboratively brainstorming and mapping grade level curriculum ideas for Oral Communications classes. Whether you are a seasoned teacher looking to refresh your OC Curriculum, or a new teacher looking to write a curriculum from scratch, this workshop is for you! High school teachers are also welcome! Beth Kaplan Wolff (MSEd.) and Catherine Marich (BEd) are teachers at Senshu Matsudo Junior High School in Chiba Prefecture.
