This presentation will focus on the use of discourse in English language instruction. Firstly, it will present an account of how the presenter was confronted by some challenges, particularly in respect to terminal, requisite courses for science and technology students. Secondly we will examine a number of solutions in the field of discourse to which the presenter was steered. Thirdly, there will be an account of how discourse was rationalized with communicative techniques and the mandates set out by the institutions. Fourthly, there will be some background detail relating to students and their requirements. Finally, participants will be furnished with a number of printed samples of lesson materials. The presenter and the participants will discuss the actual use of these materials.
Overall, this presentation will focus more the results of teaching and learning practice and subsequent subjective assessment as opposed to objective research; however participants are strongly encouraged to provide input in regards to any academic research that they feel relates to the subject.
