Vygotsky in the Classroom

Sunday, December 16th, 2007, 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Speaker: Deryn Verity

In this workshop, some practical applications of sociocultural theory for the classroom will be introduced and practiced. Ways of incorporating the theoretical principles of the Zone of Proximal Development, the social origins of cognition, and the notion of self-regulation into ordinary language lessons will be explored. Although the focus of the workshop will be on teaching older students, there should be something adaptable for all proficiency and age levels, and part of the presentation time will involve discussion on adapting and incorporating theory into practice. The workshop will be followed by our annual Bonenkai. Everyone is welcome.
