Exploring ways to use communicative language tasks with grammar-based (exam-oriented) high school English lessons

Saturday, September 29th, 2007, 7:00 PM - 8:45 PM

Speaker: Masaomi Kitamura, Uguisudani High School

In this hands-on workshop, participants will experience the textbook and testing requirements faced by Japanese teachers of English (JTE's) as they try to fulfill Monkasho suggestions to introduce more communicative English into their classes. The reality is that teachers have very little time to deviate from the text and test preparation remains the most crucial element of their job.

This workshop will provide an excellent opportunity for native speakers to experience how JTE's view communicative English within the broader context of English education. For JTE's, this workshop will provide a venue to compare teaching ideas and collaborate with native speakers to develop task-based EFL lesson plans and bridge the gap between testing and communicative English.
