This ETJ Tokyo meeting features Chantal Hemmi from the British Council, who will be presenting on using stories as a basis for movement activities in class. Stories provide an enjoyable way for the teacher to introduce or revise vocabulary and structures, exposing the children to language, which will enrich their thinking and gradually enter their own speech. In this session, the trainer will introduce a number of stories and demonstrate how they can be used in class to encourage children to communicate, even with limited language, using non-verbal communication, such as body movements and facial expression. One change from previous workshops is that we will be in the spacious confines of the British Council (BC). Doors open at 1:00, workshop begins at 1:30.
Chantal Hemmi has a doctorate in education (Ed D) and is an experienced teacher trainer and researcher. Her interest is in student autonomy in primary school language teaching and she is the British Council's lead teacher for the Morimura Gakuen Project (a primary school level English programme) in Yokohama.
