Content-Based Approaches to Foreign Language Teaching: Models and Methods

This presentation will provide a brief history of content-based approaches to foreign/second language instruction and the rationale for such approaches. This is followed by a discussion of different models of content-based instruction that are appropriate for foreign language classrooms and the implications of different approaches for instructional planning and delivery and professional development. Participants will be able to examine alternative approaches for their own classrooms.

This is a SELHi-sponsored presentation with a focus on secondary level English classes.

Professor Genesee has conducted extensive research on alternative forms of bilingual education for majority and minority language students, including immersion programs. He authored numerous articles and books on bilingualism and bilingual education.

There will be two different workshops (June 8 and June 9). Space is limited for both workshops to the first 60 participants. Participants for Friday's workshop may buy sandwiches and drinks for lunch at the workshop site. We apologize for the inconvenience but there is NO parking at the school.
