Why listening?

Sunday, June 11th, 2006, 2:15 PM - 4:20 PM

Speaker: Paul Shimizu, Publishing Director, Intercom Press

Listening is an essential element of your English conversation classes. No input, No output. Students need more strategies for focused listening in order to be able to produce. One pattern listening can work but to be really effective students need to be given a variety in order to be challenged and motivated. Student can listen for general meaning, a specific word or a complete sentence, part of a sentence or indeed feeling. The presenter in this workshop will take the participants through a variety of listening activities. This will be followed by a discussion for participants to input their own ideas.

Paul Shimizu has been involved in teaching, curriculum development and materials production for more than 30 years. He currently teaches at a High School and two Universities.
