Two Workshops

Sunday, January 29th, 2006, 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM

Speaker: David Barker

The Three Stages of Vocabulary Learning (13:30 - 14:30) David Barker will look at some vocabulary learning issues that are often missing from language programmes, with a particular focus on teaching students how to make choices about which words they learn and looking at the problems associated with trying to learn a new word for active use.
Experienced Teachers and Forgotten Techniques (15:00 - 16:00) The aim of this workshop is to remind people of some basic classroom dos and don'ts that often get forgotten when teachers work for long periods without being observed. The data for the presentation was gathered from a series of observations of English teachers with a wide range of experience at a Japanese university, but the points themselves are general enough to be relevant to most language teaching situations.
