Why Forget Where You Come From? -- Activities and projects that use Japanese culture and experiences as motivators for learning and enjoying English

Sunday, September 25th, 2005, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Speaker: Patrick Dougherty

A few years ago, Dr. Dougherty had several students go on an exchange program to Australia; these students had great difficulty in responding to questions about Japan and Japanese culture. So he developed a curriculum of activities and projects that enabled Japanese students to interact with Japanese culture and prepare to explain it in English. Dougherty will share materials which he has developed in this curriculum and his presentation will also allow the participants the opportunity to experiment with some of the materials in the seminar. Participants will also receive a packet of ten activities and projects to use with their students.
