From TPR to TPR-S (Teaching Proficiency through Reading Stories).

Sunday, September 25th, 2005, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Speaker: Melinda Kawahara

For the first half of this workshop the presenter will give you ideas on how to get your students moving and active using James Asher's TPR technique that theorizes that you remember through using your muscles. In the second half of the workshop the presenter will get participants to actively take part in a TPR-S lesson, the newest and very popular way of second language teaching in North America. TPR-S, created by Blaine Ray, has been successfully taught from kindergarten to high school aged students for the past ten years. Come and experience the amazing technique of TPR-S firsthand.

Melinda Kawahara has been teaching English as a Foreign Language in Japan to students ranging in age from 3 years old to 75 years old for the last 17 years. She taught at Junshin junior and senior high school for 11 of those years. During this time she learned of a new teaching method called TPR-S and has done extensive reading, research and training on the subject. She recently opened her own language school where she uses this method of teaching with much success.
