This one-day workshop will help intercultural learners better understand their own intercultural learning style. It will use PICO, a questionnaire-type instrument which measures an individual's orientation towards intercultural learning. See www.pico-global.com for more details about PICO.
Morning session: We will focus on learning about two traits that affect one's approach to intercultural learning: change vs. stability, and inner vs. outer referenced thinking. There will be case studies, discussion and interactive activities.
Afternoon session: We will focus on understanding and identifying differing orientations towards intercultural learning: proactive, principles, reflective and adaptive. Participants will do discussions, inteactive activities, take a multiple-choice instruement in order to create an personalized intercultual learning profile. Discussion will focus on learning how to use this understanding to improve intercultural relationships.
Notes: Space is limited to 15 participants. Please sign up as soon as possible.
Language: The workshop will be given in English, but participant discussion and comments will be both in English and Japanese. A Japanese version of the PICO instrument will be available. To sign up, please see the JII website.
