The Balanced Curriculum

Sunday, October 3rd, 2004, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Speaker: Maurice Jamall

This presentation introduces The Balanced Curriculum, a post-method pedagogical model for the teaching and learning of languages. The session will introduce the different types of focus that students need in order to learn a language. Briefly, these include meeting new language, getting a degree of productive control over new language, and developing receptive and productive fluency with already-learned language. The model will be explained with reference to The Cycle of Learning, that is the different kinds of processes that learner go through at different stages in their acquisition of a foreign language. Suggestions for applying The Balanced Curriculum to local conditions will be given.
