Speaker: Local poster presenters
This session is a practical session aimed at getting several members to design a poster to present their own materials or teaching idea. A poster might typically be about eight A4 sheets mounted on a cardboard poster sheet with diagrams/texts arranged in a way that provides a rationale and examples of the materials. In a poster presentation, presenters stand by their posters and discuss them with other participants, who move freely from poster to poster. It's a great ice-breaker and often leads to more feedback and communication than a formal presentation from the front of the room. We plan to have one hour for half the presenters and the other hour for the other half, so that presenters all get a chance to circulate too.
To get things going, Roger Nunn (East Shikoku JALT President) will make a 20-minute presentation to introduce a few points in relation to designing interactive tasks in integrated units, based on the Kochi University curriculum project. He briefly discusses holistic activities and supporting exercises, distinguishing between exercises and tasks as a central focus for discussion. The emphasis is on classroom practice.
