Terry Fellner & Matthew Apple from Himeji Dokkyo University will present an intensive CALL program held over two weeks they developed in the summer of 2004 for a group of fourth-year low-intermediate level university students. An initial survey indicated a high level of anxiety among students regarding the use of computers to learn English. To allay student fears, a task-based curriculum structured around CALL activities utilized a wave pattern to recycle and strengthen computer and language skills. The presentation will demonstrate that through the use of daily Blogs, online concordance tasks, ranking discussions, and various online listening and grammar activities the course both decreased learner anxiety and increased motivation to learn English.
