This presentation will demonstrate the integrated use of the communicative approach with grammar instruction. The presenter will also show from both cognitive and sociolinguistic perspectives that the use of Japanese and grammar teaching are not detrimental to improving learners' communicative competence and will make suggestions as to how to utilize both English and Japanese in the classroom.
