English Language and Culture Study through Jokes

Saturday, January 17th, 2004, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Speaker: Scott Gardner

College students in a speaking/listening class spent part of their semester studying American and/or Western jokes. Students were expected to interpret and evaluate the jokes, and to draw what they could about the language used and the cultures that produced them, with the instructor's assistance. At the end of the semester they participated in two projects which allowed them to demonstrate what they had observed: acting out humorous skits, and creating their own jokes.
