Friday, June 4th, 2004, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Speaker: Don Hinkelman, Sapporo Gakuin University
(Please note that this event is free only if you have pre-registered by May 5 for the JALT CALL 9th Annual Conference on June 5th and 6th. Otherwise the cost is 2,000 yen (discounts are available for JALT, LET and JACET members).
Teachers with no programming knowledge will prepare a website in an hour with discussion forums, chatrooms, teacher-student online journals, polls, quiz questions, and announcements. This course website will then serve as an interactive supplement to a face-to-face classroom.
By creating a 24/7-accessible online community in language learning, students can recycle and reinforce class lessons daily in their free time at home or school. Moodle makes this possible for ordinary teachers who want to focus on language lessons, not technical setup.
Each interactive web activity will first be demonstrated and then, in a hands-on fashion, participants will create similar activities on their own course site. Having designed their own course in this workshop, participants can continue to use it for one year with their class.
Those who want to expand to multiple courses with their own domain name should contact the workshop facilitator at least three weeks before the workshop to register a name. To gain familiarity with the software before the workshop, visit the Forums area at the JALTCALL Conference website: http://jalthokkaido.org/moodle/course/view.php?id=5 (Available in JAPANESE at http://jaltcall.org/call2004/workshops-j.html)
