Integrating Culture into the Language Course

If one wants to integrate culture into the language classroom, where does one start? Culture, after all, is a huge topic - one could conceivably do "holidays and food", then go on to "customs", "religion", "shopping", and so on...but where does it end? How does one know when enough culture topics have been taught and the course is, well, finished? In this workshop presentation the speaker will propose a template approach to teaching culture in the language course. Christine Winskowski is a recent arrival to Japan and teaches in Iwate Prefectural University's Department of International Cultural Studies. Her interests include culture and language, discourse analysis, and recently, the lexical approach to language teaching.
