Addressing Individual Differences through Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences

Sunday, September 28th, 2003, 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Speaker: Ronald Schmidt

Addressing individual differences in the second language classroom is an important factor in lesson planning. Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences may serve as a way to address these differences. The workshop will begin with a description of Gardner's theory. The relevance of his theory to educators will be discussed as well as ways by which students may be assessed using a survey type questionnaire. The workshop will conclude with a description of a variety of language teaching activities which may be used to address individual differences in the second language classroom based on Gardner's theory.
