The Learner Centred Revolution

Saturday, December 7th, 2002, 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Speaker: Christopher Chase, Seinan Gakuin University

In this workshop, the co-author of "Natural Speaking\" (Intercom Press) looks at ways to encourage learners both inside and outside the classroom. Examples will be provided of learner centred activities and exercises. We will discuss the importance of games, student projects, extracurricular activities encouraging journal writing, and DVD study, music listening and singing, e-mail writing, homestays, etc. We will also look at how children naturally learn their first language, and why outside class practice and experiences are crucial to language skill development. The last part of the presentation will involve brainstorming with participants about ways we can motivate our learners to take control of their own learning and understand that success depends upon their own efforts.
